Well I've been writing a fan-fic for a while of a hypothetical season 4, and theres still alot to be written and alot to be changed, but this is what I have so far...
Prologue
Harry’s heart was pounding madly as he ran across the schoolyard. He briefly examined his surroundings as he sprinted towards his destination. All he could see was two young students, a near empty car park and, of course, his girlfriend Lucy. He knew he must reach the classroom before it was too late; his destiny depended on it. As he approached the doors, he furiously grabbed them and pulled them back and kept running down the long, narrow halls. As he ran, Lucy, who was just in front of him, collided with a teacher in the hallway.
“Oh I’m sorry Ms Lewis!” apologized Lucy.
“Lucy! Look what you’ve done! If you’d stop running like a lunatic you would be less likely to mow teachers over in the corridor! And what are you wearing?”
“I’m Sorry Miss Lewis but I’ve got to-”
“-You’re not going anywhere until you’ve helped me pick up these papers and put them back into order!”
“Harry, go on, I’ll catch you there!” she quickly said as she picked up the pieces of paper that had scattered across the floor. Harry bolted for the classroom door and quickly entered to see David, Sarah, Shona, Leon, Chrissy, Simon and Mr. Simmons, all classmates and a teacher, waiting for him.
“One out of two isn’t bad. Alright, I’ve got some great news-”
The class interrupted him with laughter as they joked about Harry’s appearance. He was wearing a T-Shirt, shorts and his backpack, and was covered in dirt. “Alright, alright, let’s get on,” said Mr. Simmons. “But the good news-”
“STOP!” shouted Harry across the classroom. “I know what you’re going to say!”
“Yeah Harry, I’m sure you’ve guessed right, in a few days time, we will all be on our way to Australia!” announced Mr. Simmons. The class erupted into a round of applause.
“You don’t understand! We can’t go!” explained Harry frantically.
“What? Don’t be stupid, we can go, can’t we Mr. Simmons?” asked David, rather confused.
“It’s too dangerous!” reasoned Harry.
“Well what do you mean?” asked Chrissy who was also very confused.
“Harry, I’m aware of the nature of the Australian-” explained Mr. Simmons
“I’m not talking about the bush!” Harry paused momentarily before continuing. “I’m talking about extra-terrestrial life.”
Once again, the class burst into laughter “This is the U.F.O club Harry,” joked Sarah.
“Yeah, and that’s the whole reason we are going to Australia!” said David.
“Come on Lucy, I need you now,” muttered Harry under his breath.
“Harry, if you are uncomfortable with going on the trip, you won’t be forced to go. Obviously, if you drop out, I will be disappointed, but it’s your choice. There’s plenty of others queuing up to go instead.”
As Mr. Simmons explained this to Harry, Lucy burst into the room and immediately embraced Harry. She quickly let go and looked at the class. “So Harry told you. We can’t go, it’s impossible!”
“Oh no, not you as well!” complained Simon. Lucy, beginning to become very frustrated, continued talking.
“We tried! We tried to save you, but we couldn’t. This is the only way!”
“Come off it Lucy, the drama group meets next door!” said David sarcastically. The group laughed at his joke, not taking Lucy or Harry seriously. Lucy looked at Harry for support and immediately said, “I know what to do! The tapes Harry, the tapes! This is what they are meant for!”
Without a word, Harry knew exactly what Lucy meant. “Guys, we’ve got something to show you. Mr. Simmons, you bought us DV cameras, didn’t you?” asked Harry, already knowing the answer.
“How did you know that?” Mr. Simmons said, surprise evident in his voice.
“Because these are the tapes we took on the trip with us.” Harry said as he tipped the tapes out of his backpack.
“What trip?” asked Mr. Simmons.
“After you’ve seen the tapes, you won’t want to go,” warned Lucy. Everybody stood up and slowly walked over to the table in disbelief. Leon inspected the tapes. “It’s my writing, except I don’t remember writing this,” spoke Leon.
“And this one’s mine but it’s dated the 2nd of November,” said Shona.
“That’s next week,” commented David.
“Do you think this will work?” asked Lucy in an undertone to Harry.
“Trust me Lucy, once they’ve seen the tapes,” assured Harry.
“Okay, it’s all yours,” announced Mr. Simmons as he finished setting up the cassette player.
“Where do we start?” asked Harry.
“Lets start at the beginning, and know it for the first time,” answered Lucy. Harry handed the tape to David and he put it into the cassette player.
The class watched in disbelief as they watched their future play out on a television set. They watched their first days in Australia, their first encounters, and many other experiences. Not after long, the tape ended and the class stayed in silence until the door opened and disrupted the class. “Sorry we were late guys, we were-” Lucy said as she entered the room, then stopping dead in her tracks with Harry just behind her, and at that moment, the future Harry and Lucy and the past Harry and Lucy laid eyes on each other in stunned silence.
As the future Harry looked over at the future Lucy, he was shocked to discover her iris had turned bright red.
“Oh no!” cried Harry, “No, don’t be scared Lucy! It’s going to be ok!”
But deep down, he was hoping for the best but expecting the worst. Inevitably, Lucy began to disappear in front of his eyes. Harry shouted out as he watched the woman he loved disappear into oblivion. He grabbed his bag full of tapes and pushed past the old Lucy and his older self. He sprinted down the halls, not worrying who he knocked over now. He ran out into the bitter cold and kept running; he did not know where he was running to, but he knew he had to get away from his haunting memories.
Chapter One
Two years had passed as Harry stared at his old TV set. The memories still haunted him as if those dreadful events had happened yesterday. A loud noise distracted him from his train of thought and he reluctantly stood up out of his armchair and turned off his TV. As he made his way over to his bedroom window to take a look outside he cursed as he hit his knee on his coffee table. Staring out of his window and glancing out at the surroundings, he suddenly spotted a familiar looking person.
Stunned, he ran over to another window but when he got there, the person was nowhere to be seen. Although Harry wasn’t sure, he thought that the person looked very familiar. As Harry decided it was his mind playing tricks on him again, he heard the TV playing. He was almost certain he had turned it off, but he could not remember.
Deciding to forget it, he thought he should take a walk outside to get some fresh air. As he walked down the stairs of his apartment building he kept thinking about who was outside his window and whether or not it was real.
Walking through the front door of his apartments he felt a breeze brush past him and he gazed out into the emptiness of the nearby park while he slid his jacket on. There was not a soul in sight, so he thought.
Casually, he strolled through the park until he reached a bench near a lake. He sat down and relaxed and continued his thoughts from before he was distracted in his apartment.
He heard a noise behind him in the park and spun around to find there was nothing there, not even a bird. He stared out at the pond in front of him, following the water along the edge. As his eyes got half way around the pond, something shocked him. He gasped in disbelief when he saw a reflection in the water.
It was of a person, a person he had met a long time ago, but he would never forget the face. Then, almost as if Harry expected it, a second person appeared from behind the first. They were identical twins, ones that Harry knew, and despised.
“Hello Harry,” spoke the first twin. “It has been a long time.”
“What are you doing here?” snapped Harry in an angry voice.
“We have been monitoring you since we last met approximately two years ago. It appears that after the previous events that have occurred, we believe we have developed a cure for the alien disease that caused your friends to disappear.”
Harry listened intently, eager to hear more. “We have been working on a cure for a long time, but we have never had the chance to test it to see if it works, until now. We want you to go back to Australia and test this new drug on your friends,” the twins said.
“What’s the catch?” Harry asked, his curiosity getting the better of him. Hesitating momentarily, the second twin replied, “The cure is in its early stages and we are confident about its potential, but be aware, there are no guarantees.”
“What about me? Is there a chance that I will split?” asked Harry, weighing the risks.
“No, we don’t think so, after keeping track of you, we believe for an unknown reason, you are no longer vulnerable to ‘red-eye’, and it seems the affects wore off after approximately two years. We will give you one day to make your decision, and then we will be back,” warned the first twin.
One day had passed since the aliens had visited Harry at the lake outside his apartment, yet he was unsure if he could cope with going back to Australia one more time. But deep down inside himself, he knew he had to go and at least try to save his friends. Harry knew he had to face the inevitable, so he put on a warm jacket and went outside and faced the cold.
As he reminiscently made his way over to the seat near the pond, he could once again feel the breeze brush past him as he walked. Once he made it to the seat, he sat down and waited. After many minutes of waiting, he almost gave up on meeting the aliens again, until once again he heard a noise behind a nearby tree and the twins stepped out from behind it.
“Have you made your decision?” asked the first twin.
“Yes,” replied Harry in a monotonous voice.
“What is your decision?”
“I have decided to… accept your offer.”
“Good. We will be seeing each other again,” said the twins in unison. They began to give Harry instructions about what to do: “When you locate these friends of yours, you must give them a vial of this ‘cure’.” Said one twin as he held up a small bottle. “Although, when you locate your friends, you must cure them in the order that they split,” added the second twin. As Harry received these instructions, he had no trouble remembering who split first… and who split last. The whole situation seemed so close, yet so far away.
“Or this ‘cure’ may have some… side affects,” finished the twins in unison. “That is all, good luck,” they said as they disappeared once more, and Harry walked back to his apartment, unsure whether or not he had made the right decision.
After Harry had gone back to his apartment for the night, he fell asleep. After a deep and dreamless sleep, Harry woke up, but not in his usual environment. As he sat up, it was hot, very hot. He stood up and realized he was lying on grass.
Studying his surroundings, he immediately realized where he was: Australia. Suddenly all Harry could think about was his friends and how it seemed like only yesterday that he was talking to them at this very place.
As he glanced around, he instantly recognized where he was, he had been here before. It was near Maracoomba Island, also known as ‘A.S.T.R.I.D’ Island. ‘A.S.T.R.I.D’ stands for ‘Alien Space Travel Research Investigation Department’, the same place where Harry’s friends where being held captive, acting as young children as an effect of the ‘Red-Eye’ virus. He was on the mainland though, away from the guards on A.S.T.R.I.D, but not away from the other authorities.
Having thoughts about authorities reminded Harry of one that he knew very well, who had once lied to him, held him against his will, and even captured his friends. Her name is Helen Stanich, and although Harry did not know it at this time, Stanich was hundreds of miles away, receiving a briefing, which required her to once again return to Maracoomba Island.
As Harry stood up once again, looking at these surroundings that he knew too well, he saw nothing but empty horizons, he could not see a person in sight, just empty streets and houses. Harry decided to walk down the nearest street til he came to something he recognized. After walking for almost 15 minutes, he started to daydream and he accidentally ran into a boy who looked to be about 15.
“Oh, sorry, I didn’t see you,” Harry apologized, looking at the boy.
“Oh, that’s okay,” replied the boy, smiling.
“Do you know where a shop is?”
“Yeah, there’s a small convenience store just down the road, continue down this road, and then turn a left, you can’t miss it.”
“Thanks a lot,” said Harry as he turned to leave.
“Wait!” Shouted the boy
“Yes?”
“Do I…. Well, do I know you? You seem so familiar, have I met you before?”
“I don’t think so,” said Harry, not really in the mood for a conversation
“Harry!” the boy said triumphantly.
Slowly, Harry turned around, “How do you know my name?” asked Harry.
“You come from Scotland don’t you?”
“Yes.”
“I’m Eddie, do you remember me? I played soccer with your friend Mar-- I mean Simon,” said Eddie, struggling to remember.
Harry stopped, trying to remember the events that had occurred years ago. Slowly, he began to remember his trip to Maracoomba Island, the constant escape from Stanich, the boat he borrowed from Eddie’s father Tony, and even when Lucy—
“Do you want to come back to my house?” asked Eddie, interrupting Harry’s thoughts.
Harry was cautious, last time he was at Eddie’s house things went okay, Tony even lent them a boat!
“Well, okay,” replied Harry, unaware of the danger he had just put himself in…
Chapter Two
As Harry and Eddie made their way back to the house Harry was amazed at how little his surroundings had changed in the two years that had passed. The houses seemed almost untouched, just how he remembered them. Not after long, Harry and Eddie arrived at Eddies home. They walked up through their back yard, past some old soccer goal posts and a large area of grass that looked as if it hadn’t been cut in months. Eddie walked up to the back door and held it open for Harry to enter first.
“Thanks,” Harry said as he walked through the aged doorway.
Eddie didn’t reply. He just casually followed Harry into the kitchen while closing the door behind him.
“You want a drink Harry?” asked Eddie as he walked over to the fridge and pulled out two cans of soda.
“Uh, yeah okay,” replied Harry. “Thanks,” he added quickly
Eddie threw a can straight at Harry. Luckily, he caught it before he found himself missing a few teeth. He opened his cold drink and began to drink it as he looked around the house. “I’ll be back in a moment, I’ll see if Dad is home,” commented Eddie as he walked through a doorway into a dark room. Harry just sat there thinking of what to do next. Surely he couldn’t just get up and leave, Eddie seemed genuinely friendly and he could use all the help he could get, so he decided to stay.
Moments later he heard a voice behind him, “Well hello! Long time, no see!” Harry spun around to see Tony, Eddie’s father in front of him. “Hello Harry, it’s good to see you, would you like something to eat or drink?” asked Tony, trying to be polite
“It’s fine, thanks,” laughed Harry as he held up his can of drink to show that Eddie beat him to it.
Tony sat down across the table from Harry and asked, “So why’d you come back to Australia Harry? It’s not because of the strange things happening at Maracoomba Island is it?”
“What? What sort of strange things?” asked Harry, sounding a little too anxious.
“So you are still interested in this island? Well recently, over the last year, there seems to be some… strange lights almost glowing above the island at night,” Tony explained. Harry paused before responding to this. He was very intrigued with this new information.
“Do you know what causes these lights to appear?” Harry asked, thinking of his friends.
“Well, the Government tells us that it’s caused by light reflecting off Venus or something, but I have some friends in town who think otherwise.”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, apparently,” said Tony as he lowered his voice, “There are some strange experiments going on at that island.”
Harry thought for a moment, and then asked, “Do you still have a boat Tony?”
“Uh, yeah, but it’s been playing up a bit lately.”
“Do you think I can borrow it again?”
“Listen, you’re not thinking of going back there are you?”
Harry began to explain. “I have to-” but Tony interrupted him.
“You may think you have some sort of obligation but think again. I don’t know exactly what you did last time you were at that island, but whatever it was, it got the Government’s attention. Guys in black suits and shades showed up, and asked us questions about whether or not we knew some British backpackers. Apparently, they also found my boat left at the island without anyone around, and traced it back to me. I’m sorry Harry, but I just cannot get involved in this again.”
Harry bit his tongue before talking, and eventually said, “I understand, I better be going, thank you for all your help.” And with that, he got up and let himself out of the house. Harry walked down the street, knowing exactly what he had to do next…
Chapter Three
It was dark when Harry arrived at the docks. He searched for several minutes before he found what he was looking for – Tony’s boat. He looked around to make sure nobody was looking before he stepped down into the boat. Harry searched his pockets until his hand touched something metallic. He pulled out a key…Tony’s key. While Harry was at Tony’s house, he managed to steal the key off of a table next to the front door as he let himself out. Harry put the key in the ignition and turned it. The engine roared to life and with the flick of a switch, the boat was on its way down the river…
To be continued...
Well please tell me what you think, what should be changed etc ;D
